Associate General Counsel in JPMorgan Chase's Legal department. Ran the bank's side of Jeffrey Epstein's Bear Stearns and High Grade Fund claims in 2011, negotiating directly with Jeffrey Epstein and Darren Indyke alongside Mary Erdoes. Visited Jeffrey Epstein's Manhattan townhouse in May 2011 to discuss the Bear Stearns litigation, one of the JPMorgan employee visits the bank later disclosed under oath.

Key Findings

  • EFTA02817409 (usvi-v-jpmorgan Doc 311-68, JPMorgan's sworn interrogatory response): identified as "James Condren (Associate General Counsel, Legal)," who visited "Epstein's Manhattan townhouse" in "May 2011 (discuss Bear Stearns litigation)." Mary Erdoes and Joanna Jagoda are listed for the same visit.
  • EFTA02811946 (USVI Ex. 254): On July 19, 2011 at 5:53pm he wrote to Jes Staley, Mary Erdoes, Stephen Cutler and Nina Shenker: "I just conveyed to Mr. Epstein our response to his proposal to settle his High Grade Fund and Bear [Stearns] claims together for $21 million." Seven hours later, at 1:16am on July 20, General Counsel Stephen Cutler replied to all four: "This is not an honorable person in any way. He should not be a client."
  • EFTA02811948 (USVI Ex. 255): On July 20, 2011 he put JPMorgan's final number to Jeffrey Epstein in writing, copying Erdoes, Staley and Darren Indyke: "the offer is for us to pay $9.2 million in exchange for a full release concerning any claim (yet asserted or not) based on an investment in any Bear fund... $7 million for High Grade/Enhanced Leverage and $2.2 million for Bear. As Mary mentioned, this is our final offer." He added: "JE, I have personally very much appreciated how professional and candid you have been in our dealings on these issues."
  • EFTA02811948: Mary Erdoes recommended him to General Counsel Cutler the next morning: "Jim is, as you know, really terrific on these things. He is a no-nonsense lawyer/business person who is a pleasure to deal with."
  • EFTA00431660 (June 29, 2011): Jeffrey Epstein asked Erdoes for "a call with you, me and Condren today" to "resolve the Bear Stearns issues... for settlement purposes only."
  • EFTA00913900 (June 29, 2011): Set out JPMorgan's "out of pocket" damages theory to Jeffrey Epstein and Darren Indyke, arguing investors who rolled from the High Grade fund into Enhanced Leverage "did not 'redeem' their HG investments," written "in anticipation of the call that Jeffrey and I expect to have tomorrow with Mary Erdoes."
  • EFTA00911726 (May 30, 2011): Erdoes told Jeffrey Epstein, Staley and Nina Shenker "we are going to have Condren step in here on this issue as well as the Bear issues."
  • EFTA02815995 (Amador expert report, Fig. 1): logged as "Jim Condren, 1 visit" to the Manhattan townhouse in the tally of JPMorgan employee visits to Jeffrey Epstein's properties.
  • Not to be confused with William J. Condren of Banyan Road, Palm Beach, a different person who appears only in the Palm Beach County property rolls in the House Oversight seventh production.
