[0:00]Hey everybody welcome back to It's Happening with Velshi and Ruhl and like every week we have new
[0:05]information for you including an email address where you can send your questions to us. It's
[0:10]changed because we have a new network and in a moment Stephanie and I are going to tell you
[0:14]about the transition from 30 Rock and our we were together for the last show out of the old
[0:19]place and our new transition to MS Now but the email address is VelshiRuhl at ms.now
[0:34]there is no question too basic or too simple we a we want to answer your question and b
[0:39]really helps us to know what what folks are thinking Steph there's definitely questions that
[0:43]are too hard and when they are too hard we're going to tell you and we may have to get back
[0:47]to you next week or we're going to bring in experts that are outside of you and me but I
[0:54]can say this has been a great start to doing this program with you I do want to tell you a
[0:59]story though yeah I was in my kitchen about an hour ago and there is somebody here painting
[1:04]in my house yeah and the person's been here for about a week and it is true like in my
[1:09]in my personal life you know uh Ruhl is my maiden name it's not my married name
[1:14]and so he did the the painter doesn't know my my the difference between my names I guess
[1:19]but I would like to think that I've been looking at him for a week he maybe would recognize me
[1:23]if he was somebody who watches MS or MS Now so I'm sitting in my kitchen and I said uh I got
[1:29]to leave I have um me and Ali's YouTube show and my son he went you know Ali Ali Velshi
[1:36]and I said yeah yeah and he missed the hour show and he goes I watch that guy all the
[1:41]time like what's he like blah blah blah and then he's like how do you know him and I'm like uh I'm
[1:48]we work together and he's like what do you do there and I'm like wow like I really need to
[1:54]consider bringing some of that TV makeup home with me or I got to get more people watching
[1:59]TV at 11 o'clock but the guy has been in my house for a week uh and when he just heard me
[2:05]say I have to do a show with Ali he all of a sudden his head's spinning he runs into
[2:09]the kitchen tell me what he's like how do you know the guy and it was my husband was laughing
[2:14]his pockets off as I'm trying to explain that I'm hosting a show with you it was like right
[2:18]what do you mean you're hosting a show I'm like yeah I actually do five nights a week and I
[2:23]sometimes I'm on with Ali it was um that's why cringy for me but man you have a super
[2:28]fan in my house right now I love it I love it well we got a lot of stuff today you know
[2:32]we like to talk about the stuff that's the at the intersection of of economics and politics
[2:35]but it all kind of is including the Jeffrey Epstein story in fact it's starting to look
[2:41]like that's got a lot to do with money and not having money and who's got money and what you
[2:45]can get if you have a lot of money but there have been a million developments on that there
[2:49]have been a million developments in the effort to distract from um from the Epstein
[2:54]the so-called Epstein files which we'll talk to you about we'll talk about where that is
[2:57]and there have been a lot of activity at the White House with a lot of people with
[3:02]a lot of money and we want to sort of talk about the fact what influence that has on the world on
[3:07]your investments on your stocks and on regulation even if you're not invested in anything correct
[3:13]how it impacts your life in our economy Ali I would say you've mentioned all these different
[3:19]things that are in the news the thing that sticks out to me this week and I think people
[3:23]don't think of this story as one that relates to business but to me that it does
[3:28]it was the meeting that the president had yesterday with uh Saudi's crown prince MBS
[3:34]and when an ABC reporter Mary Bruce effectively and accurately did her job
[3:41]and asked the president about his family's business ties in Saudi Arabia and asked
[3:47]MBS about the killing of Jamal Khashoggi the president more than chastised her he
[3:53]went after her he called her insubordinate and first let's start when the president is
[3:57]calling a reporter insubordinate does he either have no regard for or not understand
[4:02]how the first amendment works and we I think we have the sound let's play let's listen to it
[4:06]this is Mr president why wait for congress to release the Epstein files why not just do it now
[4:12]it's not the question that I mind it's your attitude I think you are a terrible reporter as
[4:17]far as the Epstein files is I have nothing to do with Jeffrey Epstein I threw him out of my
[4:23]club many years ago because I thought wild it's it's it's wild that that kind of thing
[4:30]good on Mary Bruce by the way who's a great reporter and it's it's not your job to like
[4:35]we're not subordinate or insubordinate like that's not that's not our job she doesn't
[4:38]work for the president of the United States but that's the the the thing he's trying to
[4:42]convey right here by the way he called another reporter piggy on on uh on Air Force One like
[4:48]he said quiet quiet you know what it's so unbelievable you know and I say this you
[4:55]may or may not know this alley but Miss Piggy is has been my number one female icon since I
[5:00]was a child so you rarely even hear the word but let's play the president saying it
[5:12]I don't hear him do you hear him yeah I don't hear me it's him pointing his finger
[5:16]and and saying you can almost read his lips but let's do it one more time let's try it one
[5:25]more time quiet wow quiet quiet is it quiet piggy I mean look at what point do you write the stuff
[5:36]off or say hey this is actually kind of dangerous to a free press right we don't want to take
[5:39]advantage of the fact that we actually have a first amendment that guarantees the freedom of
[5:43]the press and that that press does not work for the government you can have whatever views
[5:47]you want in in the press but you don't work for the government through the history of
[5:50]newspapers in this country people have had views in favor of Republicans or Democrats or
[5:54]conservatives or liberals that's very different from this concept of you being
[5:58]accountable or the president doesn't like your question or the president doesn't like your
[6:01]attitude it's it's why the president for example likes MBS so much because in places
[6:09]like Saudi Arabia the press can't ask questions like that but but to me this is the part
[6:14]besides it being you know beneath the the beneath the the the presidency to speak to
[6:21]someone like that beside that it's indecent the thing for me with Mary Bruce yesterday not just
[6:27]him saying you're a terrible reporter I don't like your attitude he immediately went to you
[6:32]know Brendan Carr is the chairman of the FCC you work for ABC maybe we should pull your
[6:38]license yeah okay and here's why this matters we've been talking about this for months all
[6:44]sorts of businesses and institutions bending the knee to Trump because they think it buys
[6:50]them safety because they think if I pay this money if I do this thing he wants he's a
[6:55]transactional guy it'll keep my company out of harm's way because it's not my job to stand up
[7:01]for America or democracy this is their thought process it's my job to satisfy my shareholders
[7:07]my employees and my customers well yesterday's the perfect example of Mary Bruce doing her
[7:13]doing her job and the president says we should maybe pull your license that should put every
[7:20]business out there on notice you cannot buy your company's safety with this president what the
[7:27]only thing that makes you safe is indefinite obedience okay if you are indefinitely obedient
[7:34]to him then you will not be in harm's way and I'm pretty sure that's not how a democracy
[7:39]works yeah the question of what money can buy you or not buy you becomes prevalent as part of this
[7:46]the Epstein files right there's some people who are intrigued by the details of the case and
[7:51]there's some people who wonder whether this is just what a lot of MAGA supporters said it was
[7:56]a long time ago when when the Epstein files became a thing in the MAGA verse and that was
[8:00]do some people get different treatment because they're they're wealthy so the Epstein files
[8:05]weirdly Adelita Grajava from Arizona when she got sworn in as a newly elected
[8:12]representative in Congress she became the 218th signature we talked about this last week
[8:16]that forced to vote in the house strangely after going against it the whole time Donald
[8:22]Trump decided that he wanted Congress to vote in favor of it Congress voted in favor of it
[8:28]is it strangely Ali or are there two possible outcomes is he was saving face the fact that
[8:34]the vote went so quickly from the house to the Senate and the Senate unanimous we don't even
[8:39]need to vote if he hadn't have changed his tune it would have been absolute humiliation a week
[8:46]ago yeah they had Lauren Boebert right not a not a senior lawmaker Lauren Boebert cornered
[8:55]in the situation room trying to make her sweat it out and and go against Nancy Mase
[9:01]and Marjorie Taylor Greene and Ro Khanna they went from doing that one week ago to a near unanimous
[9:07]vote that's making its way to the president's desk or and I want to bring in and I know we're
[9:11]going to get to our viewer questions this is my big question and Lisa Rubin is standing by
[9:16]the president doing an about face saying release the files when first of all he could have
[9:21]released them all along the fact that he's willing to say that now and make such a turn
[9:28]my my concern my fear my reservation is that we're never going to see these files
[9:33]Pam Bondi when she was just asked about it she said we're going to follow the law I'm
[9:38]worried that when we get these files is it just going to be a thousand lines of Sharpie
[9:44]scratched out everything on it you know that has anything to do with the president Lisa Rubin
[9:49]law of Ruby you might know her as online is standing by let's bring her in Lisa
[9:54]Steph I share that concern wholeheartedly and and the reason I share that I know and I know
[10:01]the reason I share that concern has to do with two things it has to do with the text of the
[10:05]bill and it has to do with the timeline so you'll remember that last week the president
[10:11]sent out this x-post suggesting that a number of people needed to be prosecuted or needed at
[10:18]least to be investigated including Bill Clinton and Larry Summers and JP Morgan Chase and like
[10:24]he has done in the past what looked like a private message to Pam Bondi is splashed across
[10:30]x for all of the world to see and by Sunday night he drops his opposition to the Epstein
[10:35]Files Transparency Act and I want to suggest to you and your viewers that those two things
[10:39]are intimately connected and the reason why is the bill has three sections and the first
[10:43]section goes through all the different categories of Epstein documents that have to be released
[10:47]within 30 days in the bill's enactment that's the good news then it goes to a section two that
[10:52]talks about all of the things that the attorney general and her sole discretion can either
[10:58]withhold entirely or redact and redact is just a legally fancy word for saying you know taking
[11:04]the black sharpie whether electronically or manually and x-ing out things that you don't
[11:09]want people to see now the bill says that embarrassment reputational harm political sensitivity
[11:16]none of those are reasons for withholding a redaction but among the reasons that Pam Bondi
[11:21]can withhold things or can substantially redact them is to the extent that it would compromise
[11:27]an ongoing active law enforcement investigation or an ongoing case and it's not this is this is
[11:34]important you you you first asked you mentioned this to me when you and I talked on Friday
[11:39]evening yep and it all the pennies dropped at the same time when you said that yeah and
[11:45]I think that you know the people in the White House as much as we think that there are a number
[11:49]of people there who are ill-prepared for their jobs they can read statutory text no differently
[11:54]than we can right they saw that that existed in the bill and they sort of reverse engineered
[11:58]from that their willingness to do the about face recognizing that that carve out is there
[12:05]then he called for this active investigation to be opened and indeed 217 minutes by our friend
[12:13]Glenn Thresh's count 217 minutes elapsed between when Trump sends out that x-post
[12:18]and when Pam Bondi says sir essentially I'm on it I've already dispatched Jay Clayton who's
[12:24]the interim U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York same place that you know authorized
[12:30]and handled the Epstein and Maxwell prosecutions in 2019-2020-21 I'm gonna have him do this new
[12:38]investigation and so I would submit to you yes the attorney general has 30 days
[12:43]to return these materials I'm not concerned about the slow walk I'm concerned that the
[12:49]production is not going to exist at all and to the extent that it does it's going to be like
[12:53]reading a mash note because everything that stuff just said is going to come to pass the
[12:56]big massive oh like you know when you take um letters from magazines and you paste them
[13:04]together like a like a like when a serial like when I'm watching the movie with Kevin Costner
[13:11]and Whitney Houston the bodyguard the bodyguard yeah yeah yeah when the killer has like I love
[13:16]you yes like a murder yes so like you know this is my bad lawyer humor or my gallows
[13:22]lawyer humor sometimes lawyers say that when something is too heavily redacted and all you
[13:26]see is a random word here and there it almost appears like a mash note because there's no
[13:31]whole sentences to string together and I'm going to tell you that my biggest fear about
[13:36]this production isn't that it won't exist it's that by the time we get it first of all we
[13:41]don't know what we're not going to know so if Pam Bondi withholds big swaths of material
[13:46]we're not going to know what she withheld at least until a later point in time and
[13:50]I can get to that but then with respect to the redacted stuff it may be really difficult
[13:55]to read what is produced and make any rhyme or reason out of it but Lisa there was I
[14:00]remember reporting that the FBI a while ago had us had put together a spreadsheet
[14:06]yep and then on it it was every it had the number it had every time Trump's name was
[14:11]mentioned in the Epstein files so if you're the Oversight Committee or if you're a House
[14:16]Democrat or if you're not a House Democrat if you're one of the hundreds of lawmakers
[14:21]that voted to release the files can't you say I'd like that I'd like that FBI spreadsheet
[14:27]you can and in fact you're sort of entitled to a version of it under the third part of the bill
[14:33]so you know the the third part of the bill says after she finishes her production or her roll
[14:41]out of what she's going to give to Congress she then owes them a report and one of the
[14:45]things that has to be included in that report is a list of all the government officials public
[14:51]figures who appear in the files that doesn't mean that they have to tell Congress exactly
[14:58]where they appear in the files but they have to compile a list even if those people's names
[15:03]are redacted for other reasons they have to show the House and Senate Judiciary Committees
[15:09]whose names were listed and there's no obligation on behalf of those people to keep
[15:13]that a secret okay we are 16 minutes deep Ali and you and I are not adhering to the
[15:20]purpose of this show which is to answer people's questions can I give a little can I can I you know
[15:25]show people behind the curtain a little bit we have a new system which I think it looks
[15:30]fantastic and until like two minutes ago I thought it was the best thing in the entire
[15:33]world and I'm looking at a screen that has 13 windows on it and I got Brad telling me
[15:37]ask the question I can't see any questions yeah I can't I can see that they're in a screen
[15:44]uh but it's it's it's one of 10 screens and there's there's no possibility in this life
[15:50]or the next with even thicker glasses than this that I would ever be able to make them out so
[15:55]I here's the good news we know you have a question one Brad you can read you can tell
[15:59]Ali and I and we can we can ask Lisa let's let's okay Brad's going to give us a question
[16:04]Chris on YouTube I saw Pam yeah okay so if you're scrubbing uh this these these documents
[16:16]we've seen this with the tariffs in the interest of national security
[16:20]Trump has sort of demonstrated that that sort of involves everything right like an ad uh aired
[16:25]by the premier of Ontario with Rod Reagan because tariffs so what can't can't say every
[16:31]time we see Donald Trump's name the national security issue it's a national security issue
[16:36]he's the president of the United States we can't show anyone that can't she make that argument
[16:41]I mean one of the things that's really challenging here is if she makes that argument
[16:46]nobody's going to know she makes that argument because she doesn't have to justify it
[16:50]to anyone but herself and definitely national security is one of the exceptions here so to
[16:57]the extent that she withholds something in the interest of national defense or foreign policy
[17:03]or national security all she has to do is release an unclassified summary of anything
[17:11]that she determines is in the interest of protecting the national security but I mean
[17:15]you guys know that that unclassified summary could be vaguer than the day is long and so
[17:24]yeah she could in her own discretion make those determinations and the same thing is true with
[17:29]respect to you know the carve out that says that she can hold back anything that would
[17:34]jeopardize a federal investigation or ongoing prosecution the bill says that she can only
[17:40]withhold things to the extent that it's quote narrowly tailored and temporary but who gets
[17:45]to make that determination the same person who told all of us in July in an unsigned memo
[17:50]that no warrant no further disclosure was even warranted in the first place so it places the
[17:55]discretion to make these decisions with the same group of folks who were like nothing to see here
[18:01]and and for that reason I'm dubious that we're going to get the kind of disclosure
[18:05]that we all want and the survivors deserve and I figured out how to see the questions
[18:10]so I've so I've so I've got them somebody says if someone implicated in the Epstein
[18:18]files decides to turn state's evidence how can Bondi Patel interfere with that process now that's
[18:24]a lot of assumptions and jumps because because I mean just want to be clear the Epstein files
[18:29]is sort of a colloquial term right yes totally it's a lot of things it's everything the justice
[18:34]department has connected to Jeffrey Epstein so there's a lot of jumps here but if there's
[18:39]somebody who is the word that that the person who sent the question in on youtube said is
[18:45]asking is is using is implicated I mean there's a part of the question that's also sort of hard
[18:52]to square with reality like what does it mean to turn state's evidence here where the person you
[18:57]would turn to is the very department of justice right and so if to the extent that the person
[19:03]is going to turn state evidence and implicate people that are allies of the administration
[19:07]how meaningful of a turn is that to begin with I think that person is probably better off
[19:12]being a whistleblower or coming forward in the media to the extent that they want to turn
[19:17]state's evidence because the way in which we used to see these things unfold is not the way
[19:21]this is unfolding at all Stephanie it's wild by the way once you get the full screen thing
[19:26]to work how easy it is to read the question so please keep your question you know I keep
[19:31]texting our producer rad I not only don't have the screen but he doesn't text me back so I'm
[19:36]struggling here but that's fine he's saying he's he's saying he's texted um uh Lisa I want to ask
[19:42]you another question on an unrelated case this has to do with uh James Comey um you and I
[19:48]talked about how uh disorderly the filing of this indictment uh was uh seems like it got
[19:54]more complicated in a way that is being described as a humiliation for the department
[19:59]of justice what's happened here oh gosh Ali this is bonkers and so I'm going to do my
[20:03]best to simplify this but generally speaking when you go to seek an indictment not only is
[20:08]it highly irregular that the actual US attorney themselves is the sole person presenting to a
[20:13]grand jury but there are certain rules you have to follow and one of those rules is that
[20:19]you have to have the indictment that becomes the charging document against a defendant voted
[20:25]on by the full grand jury and approved by a quorum of them what appears to have happened
[20:33]here is that Lindsay Halligan walked in and she had a three count indictment and she left the
[20:37]room and the grand jurors deliberated and they decided one of those counts they didn't think
[20:41]should be charged against Jim Comey the other two they were okay with what's supposed to happen
[20:46]in that instance is that you go back in and you start from scratch and you present again to
[20:51]the grand jurors the two counts that they seem to have been okay with and you ask them to
[20:56]approve a redrafted indictment and then they all sign off on it or they take a vote and then
[21:01]the four person signs it but that's not what happened here and in court today on a motions
[21:06]hearing on an unrelated motion where Jim Comey's lawyers were arguing that he's been selectively
[21:11]and vindictively prosecuted the judge got an admission from one of the Department of Justice
[21:16]lawyers that what Lindsay Halligan did was when she received the what we call a no true bill
[21:23]on the three count indictment with a grand jury coordinator for the Eastern District of Virginia
[21:27]they basically created a new document they edited it they didn't give it back to the full grand
[21:33]jury they walked into a courtroom instead with both of the documents and the four they had the
[21:39]four person tell the the judge there well we didn't approve one of the counts we approved two
[21:44]of the others and here's the two count instrument that we're going to use to charge Jim Comey
[21:49]and the judge was definitely confused because among other things they handed her both indictments
[21:54]at once both of them had Lindsay Halligan's signature on it and she said Miss Halligan like
[21:58]I have two indictments in front of me one has three counts one has two counts which is the
[22:02]actual document that the grand jurors approved and not only did she not explain it well she
[22:08]denied that her signature was even on both of them but if you look back at the transcript
[22:16]of what happened that day wait wait wait wait say that again so hold on Lindsay Halligan
[22:21]then said that's not my signature she said I didn't sign both of them and in fact Steph I have
[22:28]that transcript still she was her she was herself as confused as the judge was but had
[22:34]she signed both she indeed had signed both it's crazy talk prepare prepare us for the for the
[22:41]political spin I can't even believe I'm going down this path but but but I'm thinking back to
[22:47]just a week ago when two weeks ago when a judge told the Trump administration yes in fact you do
[22:53]have the power and the ability to to pay SNAP benefits do it and just this week I watched the
[22:58]cabinet secretary when they were asked about it immediately turn and blame the judge and say it
[23:03]was a liberal democrat judge blah blah blah blah blah oh well we already know what this
[23:08]someone tell us what the spin is because I want to be prepared for it well based on the
[23:14]Department of Justice's representations in court today and again we don't have a transcript but
[23:18]I'm relying on the reporting of our very excellent colleague Fallon Gallagher basically the
[23:23]Department of Justice tried to blame the grand jurors and say that the grand jurors were
[23:27]responsible for the confusion that is you know poppycock as my grandma would say because you
[23:34]can't expect grand jurors to be expert in the law relying on the grand jurors it's like
[23:39]the blind leading the blind right Lindsay Halligan is supposed to be the person blaming the
[23:42]grand jurors that's like louise rule on jury duty like she's got her word search in sudoku
[23:48]and you're gonna blame her right right the whole point of a grand jury is that these are
[23:53]this is these are your peers these are people out there they're not meant to come
[23:57]with any specialized instructions as to how to be a member of a grand jury uh so that's how
[24:03]somebody's asked a question here um can Pam Bondi get disbarred for the Comey indictment
[24:08]craziness now there's a question in the question here that I want to ask you about
[24:11]who would disbar her who's the boss well the boss is actually the state bar to which she's a
[24:17]member it's the Florida state bar so will she be disciplined by the Department of Justice
[24:22]absolutely not she is the Department of Justice and the same thing goes for Lindsay Halligan
[24:26]in a normal Department of Justice and I can't even believe I'm saying this because in a
[24:30]normal Department of Justice Lindsay Halligan would never be in a position to be a U.S.
[24:35]Attorney B before a grand jury but in a normal Department of Justice you'd refer people
[24:39]like this to the Office of Professional Responsibility to determine if anything
[24:43]awry has gone on and whether they should be sanctioned for their misconduct
[24:47]but they are also members of state bars so Lindsay Halligan's case she's a member of the
[24:51]Colorado state bar Pam Bondi is a member of the Florida state bar I don't think that Pam
[24:55]Bondi has done anything yet based on what we know that could result in her being sanctioned
[25:01]or disciplined Lindsay Halligan is a different story though entirely because one of the
[25:06]obligations that all lawyers have is not to make misrepresentations or defraud people
[25:12]or be dishonest in the conduct of their responsibilities and that applies both in court
[25:16]and out of court you'll remember when Rudy Giuliani was referred to the bar of New York
[25:22]one of the bases for his losing his license in New York was that when he went on various
[25:27]cable programs and talked about the 2020 election that according to the New York
[25:33]authorities he was dishonest he was fraudulent in his representations and that in and of itself
[25:39]even though he wasn't even in a court was a violation of his ethical responsibilities
[25:43]as a lawyer was Rudy Giuliani one of the people that Trump pardoned or pre-pardoned
[25:47]or whatever he did two weeks ago he was he was so he was but mean what does that mean
[25:53]for Rudy Giuliani being disbarred in New York a and b the whatever it is 144 million
[25:58]dollars that he's supposed to pay for Ruby Freeman and Shea Moss yes at this because
[26:04]I from what I you just explained to me Lisa just being disbarred is not necessarily related to
[26:11]a criminal conviction that's that's totally right although if you are criminally convicted
[26:16]you are automatically disbarred okay so in Rudy's case the basis for his losing his license
[26:22]was not attributable to his having had a criminal conviction and he still doesn't have
[26:26]a criminal conviction to stuff's question though about Ruby Freeman and Shea Moss he actually
[26:30]reached a settlement with them last year after they had proceeded to chase him through the
[26:35]bankruptcy courts of New York and back through the southern district in an effort to collect
[26:39]you guys might remember that one of the things that the estate had to seize was his frame
[26:44]Joe DiMaggio jersey or and like various watches that belonged to his grandfather and his New
[26:49]York City apartment right correct and amidst all of that craziness Ruby Freeman and Shea
[26:55]Moss reached an undisclosed settlement with Rudy Giuliani so that civil litigation is over
[27:01]to the extent that the pardon is effective anywhere it would be with respect to any crime
[27:06]that Rudy could be charged with and we know that he was an uncharged co-conspirator and
[27:11]the federal election interference case that was before Judge Chetkin and then dismissed
[27:15]but also the argument that folks like Ed Martin who is now at the Department of Justice
[27:19]are making is that state authorities including those in Georgia had no right to charge Rudy
[27:25]Giuliani with any crime because to the extent that he committed a crime with respect to
[27:31]January 6th and the big lie it implicated federal proceedings and therefore the supremacy
[27:37]clause should you know prevent the state of Georgia and its various law enforcement officials
[27:43]from charging people like him that's the argument at least here's my non-legal
[27:47]question Stephanie in that you what you the way you asked the question about Rudy
[27:52]Giuliani one of those people who was this is the normalization of of using pardon power right
[27:57]that we're not even 100 sure we kind of think somewhere in this this blizzard of news somebody
[28:02]brought up Rudy Giuliani and a pardon and it's gone from the news cycle already and when that
[28:07]becomes normal that that that can happen one of these days is going to happen with with
[28:13]what's her name with with Galen Maxwell right there'd be some kind of commutation
[28:17]and and it's just going to be buried under 16 other things that Donald Trump has done in
[28:21]the last 48 hours and and people are going to wonder should I concentrate on that or not
[28:27]like it's not so much a legal issue it's it's a we can't even process all this
[28:30]okay but this is what I think and and Lisa my question to you we I'm sure we have more
[28:35]questions but again I can't see them let's say let's go I want to go back to Galen
[28:40]excuse me um the Epstein files yeah let's say what we get in 30 days is
[28:45]a bunch of scribble what if what if there's nothing in it and what if you keep the they keep
[28:50]having to fight and push for more and more information on one hand maybe this is a
[28:56]political question for you Ali on one hand will the American people be so fatigued
[29:01]right and I take you back to I don't know the Mueller investigation when if you actually
[29:06]read all 200 plus pages of the Mueller report it was damning um but most people didn't
[29:15]and Bill Barr reframed it in two pages and said nothing to see here and people moved on
[29:20]or in this case are the American people because this is about the victims it's not
[29:25]about Democrats or Republicans it's about the victims are the American people demanding this
[29:30]so much are they so interested that they're not going to stand for Pam Bondi saying nothing
[29:35]to see here and the thing being heavily redacted because in this case you've got
[29:41]Republicans and Democrats who want to get to the bottom of it which is different
[29:46]from the Mueller report but you're really right your your point about the the Mueller
[29:49]same thing most people don't read these things right I I podcasted all the Trump indictments
[29:55]um because it's it's legal stuff right some are some indictments are easier to read than
[29:59]others but some are just legal they're they're they're legal things and and that's
[30:03]right once you've taken the the the you know taken the burner away from the why don't
[30:08]release the files why don't you release the files it then becomes a process conversation Lisa
[30:12]and people don't get as passionate about process conversations about well the files are
[30:15]sort of dripping out it's going to take 12 years to get them all all the details released
[30:19]it it has the effect of of dulling the edge but hold on at least I want but but maybe
[30:25]Ali in this case the Mueller investigation was hugely important but it didn't necessarily
[30:32]connect with the American people the way this stuff right right remember there are hundreds
[30:38]and hundreds of victims the PSA okay those women who who who did that PSA and they stood up
[30:46]and they held pictures of themselves when they were 13 and 14 and 16 years old when they were
[30:52]abused that has an impact yeah that's right that's why Nancy Mace and Marjorie Taylor
[30:57]Green got on board not because Hakeem Jeffries told them to yeah Lisa what do you think I
[31:05]think there are reasons to believe this might go down differently than the release of the Mueller
[31:10]report including because in the bill itself there is this report required by the Attorney
[31:16]General to go straight to these congressional committees and you've got to and you've got
[31:20]to believe that the Democrats on the committee are going to release that but one of the things
[31:23]she has to say is she has to give them all the categories of the records that she has
[31:28]released and all the categories of the records she's withheld she has to summarize
[31:33]all the black sharpie redactions that she made including what's the legal basis for her doing
[31:38]so she has to justify that and then of course she's got to give them and then I referred to
[31:42]this earlier the list of all the government officials and politically exposed persons
[31:46]that's the phrase that it used named or referenced in the release materials with
[31:51]no redactions permitted with respect to those folks right like she can't just say oh I'm
[31:59]going to tell you who all the people are but I'm going to redact their names because again
[32:05]the bill says you can't withhold that information on the basis of embarrassment
[32:09]reputational harm or political sensitivity and I don't care whether it's a government official
[32:14]a public figure or a foreign dignitary those names are going to be in that report
[32:18]and theoretically House and Senate Democrats are going to want that to see the light of day.
[32:23]Now could Pam Bondi get ahead of it the way that Bill Barr did by releasing that letter
[32:27]and really mischaracterizing and sort of transfiguring the conclusions of the report
[32:34]maybe but I have I hope at least that the way that this is drafted reflects some thinking
[32:43]about how that information is going to come in and how at the very least the department
[32:48]is going to be on the defense to justify what they don't give us so much as they justify
[32:54]what they do and then there's the other question of like I mean Lisa I do not think that Thomas
[32:59]Massey and a near unanimous vote is going to stand for this no I agree with you the question
[33:06]is what he can do about it right and so you know when we think about you were saying the
[33:12]sort of back and forth and the pressure on the Department of Justice to release more is it
[33:16]going to be more than just a back and forth he said she said or will Congress as a body
[33:22]actually go to court to enforce this law and say no no no we commanded you we passed a bill
[33:30]that was signed by the president that orders you to share this with us and you've improperly
[33:34]withheld scores of material from us and I don't know the answer to that question there are a
[33:38]bunch of legally thorny and technical questions embedded in that but to your point stuff after
[33:46]going through all this effort do I think that Thomas Massey is going to stand down I don't
[33:50]and if I think that he thinks he could be the plaintiff in a lawsuit to enforce the rights of
[33:54]Congress under this bill I think he will Stephanie remember when you and I were going to handle
[33:59]the these legal questions without Lisa I believe I told you straight out of the gate I was not
[34:06]going to do that Lisa you are amazing you are so good and you you make things so clear
[34:12]and you that one answer reason I'm not sure this is going to be I'm trying to make this
[34:15]simple as possible trust me if we had attempted that we'd still be explaining it so
[34:18]when our producer Brad said do you guys want to do this I had a flashback of Ali and I having an
[34:24]interview last week with Forbes talking about MSNOW and talking about the show and I said
[34:29]you know what we are most known for is smart content and so when we when they said to us
[34:35]you think you guys can handle this immediately we're pulling the Lisa Rubin ripcord
[34:41]that's how we give the audience smart content we find where Lisa is in the
[34:46]meanwhile I'm sweating the entire time being like oh god do I have answers for this pop quiz
[34:51]yes yes you absolutely did you brought it thank you my friend great to see you as always
[34:56]bye thanks for having me love leaning into Lisa's expertise she's always got the answers
[35:01]um the king of Saudi Arabia Stephanie no the crown prince I know that's what I'm saying
[35:06]everybody knows the crown prince I don't know if anybody does anybody know who the king is
[35:10]he's the Mohammed bin Salman is Mohammed the son of Salman which would make Salman the king
[35:14]he's still there nobody's sort of had much to do with King Salman for a very long time Mohammed
[35:19]bin Salman runs the place um and he's very chummy with uh with the trumps and with Jared
[35:25]Kushner and he was asked about that Ali he has been chummy with all sorts of American
[35:31]businesses yes and American uh investors and hedge fund managers because some speculation
[35:37]that he might be joining with Paramount in the bidding for CNN or something because
[35:42]he has control of the sovereign wealth fund and makes massive investments in all sorts
[35:47]of American businesses so there's lots of movers and shakers in the U.S. who would
[35:52]consider MBS their boy but he hasn't been welcomed to the White House since we learned
[35:57]about the the killing of Jamal Khashoggi and was determined that it was the Saudis
[36:02]who were in charge of that so he shows up apparently the stain has been washed away
[36:06]he's sitting there someone asked a tough question and in amongst the super convoluted
[36:11]responses that Donald Trump gave they were so offended that they would ask about this
[36:15]they said you don't offend this man but Donald Trump in reference to Jamal Khashoggi said
[36:20]things happen do we have that sound happen uh I don't know if we've got it let's let's play
[36:27]because I think you have to hear this to to really get the feeling of it the U.S.
[36:30]intelligence concluded that you orchestrated the brutal murder of a journalist 911 families
[36:35]are furious that you are here in the Oval Office why should Americans trust you and
[36:40]the same to you Mr. President now who are you with I'm with ABC News sir you're with who
[36:43]ABC News sir fake news ABC fake news one of the worst one of the worst in the business
[36:48]as far as this gentleman is concerned he's done a phenomenal job you're mentioning somebody
[36:53]that was extremely controversial a lot of people didn't like that gentleman that you're
[36:57]talking about whether you like him or didn't like him things happen but he knew nothing
[37:02]about it and we can leave wild even just looking at MBS's hands I mean he didn't
[37:08]know what to do uh things happen can we just things happen things happen you don't walk into
[37:15]a bone saw that's not actually something that happens happen is what my kitchen looks like
[37:20]after my daughter says can I make pancakes for everybody and while the pancakes are tasty
[37:26]my kitchen looks like a bomb went off that's things happen yes I really want to bring in
[37:30]David Rode to respond to what the president said uh is he there David are you there
[37:35]David as a reporter as a journalist who you yourself years ago were kidnapped by the Taliban
[37:44]what what did you think how did you feel when you heard the president say things happen
[37:51]I just speaking personally uh and as a journalist you know I was I was outraged I just
[37:56]um Jamal Khashoggi you know was a columnist for the Washington Post he was a dissident um
[38:03]um and to have him as Ali talked about um lured to the uh the Saudi consulate in Istanbul
[38:13]uh where they had dispatched I think a dozen Saudi agents were there they tricked him into
[38:18]coming inside you know they killed him and then dismembered him with a bone saw and to have the
[38:24]president United States say well things happen journalists gets just journalists get dismembered
[38:29]with bone saws and to also suggest he somehow had it coming a lot of people didn't like that guy
[38:35]this is I mean you even describe him as a dissident but he was actually he if he's a
[38:40]dissident we're all dissidents right we are critical of our our own governments as journalists
[38:44]should be Donald Trump said to Mary Bruce you're you're you're in support we're not
[38:49]insubordinate we we are critical that's what we do that doesn't necessarily make us
[38:54]dissidents it makes or gauntless critics but that's what we do and that's just it's just back
[39:00]to the first amendment and like that's people should have the right to cover their government
[39:05]people should have the right to you know say what they want when it helps him he defends
[39:09]the first amendment and so Mary Bruce is you know chastised and lectured in front of the
[39:14]entire family um you know Khashoggi is killed and they're just simply exercising their first
[39:21]amendment rights and so it's just extraordinary to have an American president in the Oval Office
[39:25]just normalizing this kind of attitude except Stephanie there's an obvious reason why it's
[39:30]being normalized right there's this is the intersection as we say of money in politics it
[39:35]always has been with with with MBS and we have views on things around the world and how
[39:39]they should go but when there's money attached to to something we we worry less
[39:44]well the president David I want you to comment on this was offended when he was asked about
[39:51]his family doing business with the Saudis when the president went to Saudi Arabia months ago
[39:57]he toured this massive real estate development property that now might have Trump branded
[40:04]properties there right he was there on state's business right representing the American people
[40:10]American people but now it sure looks like he was scoping out this real estate project
[40:16]for the Trump organization how is that okay well yeah the latest reports are that
[40:22]they might be a let's say 63 I'm just checking my notes 63 billion dollar
[40:27]Saudi government real estate project and so the sons and the Trump organizations might
[40:31]be allowed to be part of that um separately you had a few weeks ago it was in September
[40:37]Jared Kushner the son-in-law joined with the Saudi sovereign wealth fund for the 55 billion
[40:43]dollar acquisition of electronic arts the video game maker and then a couple years before that
[40:49]the Saudi sovereign wealth fund invested two billion dollars in Jared's company his family
[40:55]does massive amounts of business billions of dollars of business and you know that's my
[41:00]view too that this is fine because they're rich you know business partners of his so he's
[41:05]going to defend them defend the prince in the oval office and it's just part of this
[41:10]dangerous pattern of access uh we got a question from YouTube why was MBS even there
[41:19]like what's the what's the genesis for why MBS needed to be at the White House I get it
[41:23]they're making a lot of money off of him they're they're they're selling f-35 they've
[41:26]been asking to sell f-35s to Saudi Arabia which Israel's not happy about but again
[41:31]goes to show where there's money um it that the old rules don't matter but what what what
[41:37]does success look like for MBS being in the White House it's a whitewash for him
[41:41]it's a whitewash for him but I want to say and I want to take a minute here
[41:45]to the real the most important thing that they should have been talking about was the Gaza
[41:49]ceasefire okay which is on the verge of unraveling because there is no stabilization
[41:58]force there there need to be troops on the ground that are going to disarm Hamas
[42:02]and secure Gaza so it's not Israeli soldiers and so the Saudis are they maybe they have a right
[42:09]to do this but bin Saman is not sending Saudi troops to do that maybe you know but so they
[42:14]would be Egyptian troops maybe some from the UAE maybe some from Turkey but Saudi should be
[42:20]funding that they should be pressuring and helping Egypt do that and that barely came up
[42:26]in the meeting yesterday it was simply this talk of this false claim of 21 trillion Steph we
[42:32]talked about that last night of investment in the US so okay aren't we reaching just nonsense
[42:39]I mean back in 2007 let's like I know things get confused with like how much the sovereign
[42:45]wealth fund has and how much they invest but in 2017 the first time Donald Trump was in
[42:50]office after his Saudi visit he said Saudis are going to make a 110 billion dollar defense
[42:59]investment right that that's what we're going to see spent fast forward when our government
[43:04]went back and looked between 2017 and 2019 the Saudis spent just over 20 billion so the
[43:12]president in my opinion has no credibility when he talks about these billions now trillions
[43:19]and how it's going to impact the US economy in the American people the only that's just one
[43:24]example and the numbers he's throwing around are so far out of whack with reality
[43:31]you had said right you said total foreign investment in the United States
[43:36]is 500 billion from every country in the world and he's sitting there in the Oval Office
[43:40]saying it was 21 trillion alone from Saudi Arabia but I'll just go back to Gaza and the
[43:45]tragedy and obviously it's a deeply polarizing issue you know the 60,000 Palestinian dead the
[43:51]Israelis who died on October 7th this to end Trump's credit he put intense pressure on
[43:55]Netanyahu and had this diplomatic breakthrough and the question was will he follow through
[44:01]and you know this is just a golden opportunity with MBS in Washington right to deliver on
[44:07]Gaza and it so far it didn't happen and only five and everybody who looked at the deal when
[44:13]it first started said we're going to get probably through the first five if things go well and
[44:17]0.6 through 20 are super complicated some say possibly unattainable but absolutely unattainable
[44:23]without without the support of Saudi or and the influential countries around the region
[44:30]look I think it's fair we're going to say Donald Trump did get something done that presidents
[44:37]of the United States have not been able to do for a long time and Ali he deserves you
[44:41]know when critics say to us Joe Biden offered the same deal it doesn't matter that Joe Biden
[44:46]offered the same deal if he did what matters totally get it and I almost want to say if you
[44:51]if you stop the killing and try to bring down the animus it's even if you're taking even if
[44:57]you're getting some personal benefit out of it fine you know what people don't need to kill
[45:00]people that civilians don't need to be killed I will say the complicated part of this deal
[45:05]David it shouldn't have been but it's going to be getting past what we've already seen the
[45:10]exchange of prisoners and and hostages this next part you can't do anything without the
[45:16]stabilization force there's all sorts of things about development and policy but you can't get
[45:20]there without can we stabilize the situation in the region and even if everybody does it right
[45:25]it's still going to be wildly controversial to the people in the region who don't necessarily
[45:29]want Saudis or Egyptians or Emiratis or Turks as their police force or their security force this
[45:35]is fraught with problems that do need to be worked out it yes and then again that's what's
[45:42]so frustrating with this opportunity to to get the Saudis to help and to get that force together
[45:48]because every day that passes there's more incidents happening there's there's pressure
[45:52]from the Israeli right that wants this whole thing to be derailed and again Trump to his
[45:56]credit put enormous pressure he must have on Netanyahu to get him to even agree to this
[46:01]ceasefire but now that the hostages have been released and I know there's still some
[46:05]bodies that are on both sides that are trying to be recovered that political pressure
[46:09]is easing so every day is pressure and this whole visit as far as so far again seems like it
[46:16]didn't address Gaza at all thank you David great to see you as always thank you my
[46:21]friend we always appreciate you and your your unique insights into the situation
[46:26]David wrote Stephanie to David's point the main thing may not have been achieved the
[46:33]discussions about Gaza but there was a lot of business that seemed to have been done or at
[46:36]least the feeling of vibes of a lot of people getting together spending time at the White House
[46:41]chumming it up with MBS and Trump including Elon Musk who hasn't been seen around those parts
[46:46]for a while no Elon Musk who if you're you know the thing that's been on my mind over
[46:51]the last few weeks is that letter that over 100 public figures signed warning about AI
[46:58]super intelligence the desperate need for regulation two years ago when a letter like
[47:03]that was written Elon Musk signed it fast forward two years he didn't sign it and
[47:09]Donald Trump is surrounded by these AI giants who have scored the biggest win with him
[47:15]in that they are when people look at the stock market right until five days ago and
[47:20]they're saying the stock market's soaring soaring soaring soaring the entire stock market isn't
[47:24]soaring it's wildly overweighted these seven companies that are largely focused on AI
[47:31]and now suddenly magnificent seven correct and now suddenly wall street I don't want to say
[47:37]is panicking but is getting worried that this AI bubble could burst and if it bursts given
[47:44]how outsized they are in the market given how all in this administration is could they be too big
[47:51]to fail in getting a bailout and I can't remember if we talked about this last week but Sam Altman
[47:57]from OpenAI had publicly floated the idea of well maybe the government would backstop them
[48:04]OpenAI then walked back this this claim but there's this idea from the AI from this AI set
[48:10]that you know what the government should back not just one company but this universe of companies
[48:16]because they're like the new Manhattan project they are this massive investment that is going to
[48:21]to make sure that we are competitive and that we win this global AI race but the problem I
[48:27]see with that alley is it's only going to incentivize Elon Musk and the rest of these guys
[48:33]to take more and more risks knowing that the government is going to backstop them and
[48:38]when and if they fail it's going to make everything here cost more for everyday Americans so I think
[48:44]there's three takeaways here one is if you're watching this whether you have an AI app on your
[48:50]phone or not you interact with AI all your life in anything you do number two in theory
[48:55]when you have these new transformative technologies which AI will be and some of it may be for
[49:00]good the government should have learned from all of our transformative technologies to get
[49:05]on the front end of what properly and fairly regulating that looks like this administration
[49:10]has appointed an AI czar but it seems to be about the absence of regulation it seems to be
[49:15]about if you show up and you get involved in business ventures with the government you're
[49:19]just we're going to take a very very light touch and the third point which we have not
[49:23]addressed before Stephanie it is going to be like a utility AI will be as central to our
[49:28]lives as all of the internet is wouldn't it have been better had we thought about this from
[49:32]the beginning I'm not sure I disagree that government should be involved but I definitely
[49:38]like it might be a utility it might be as important to us as electricity I think AI
[49:42]is misinterpreted because people aren't sure how to use chat gpt or Gemini or whatever
[49:46]that's not the best use case for AI trying to figure out the best directions to get to
[49:51]even if it is the future and it is the fact that it is now getting almost no regulation
[49:59]and it's going to have that much of an impact on our lives and what about this when the president
[50:03]early in the administration was surrounded by these guys he not any of them he kept saying
[50:09]and these companies are going to create thousands tens of thousands of jobs I haven't
[50:15]heard from any of them about what jobs correct and in fact not even just those companies
[50:21]I'm talking about when we hear from other big CEOs auto manufacturers retailers bank CEOs
[50:29]I don't hear them mentioning the jobs that are getting created what they have been saying over
[50:35]the last few months is all the jobs that they're going to be getting rid of yes and that will put
[50:41]the president I think in a precarious political position let's go to a question I can't see them
[50:47]so all right molly 119 on youtube says what's going to happen with the mag-7 the magnificent
[50:51]seven stocks how much will that affect other stocks in the market and the market in general
[50:56]this is the perfect question molly thank you for asking this molly t1 19 because that's we're
[51:02]telling you that they're sort of separate that the magnificent seven is different from
[51:05]the other 493 stocks in the in the s&p 500 but what does that mean well are all stocks going
[51:11]up because of the magnificent seven are stocks going up in large part because people are telling
[51:16]you that they're involved with ai lots of companies say oh we're really leaning into ai
[51:20]but I don't really understand what it is they're doing with ai but this is a good
[51:23]question what what happens to the mag-7 what happens to the rest of the stock market
[51:28]listen the mag-7 have been holding first of all the rest of the stock market has not been
[51:35]actually doing that well people just think it because the mag-7 take up occupies so much
[51:41]space it makes it look like the whole market is doing well like especially you know if you're
[51:45]invested in an index but if you look at individual companies outside of those they've
[51:50]many of them have struggled this year and if we see the mag-7 uh stumble trip or there is a
[51:57]bubble burst it's going to have huge negative effects on the overall market um i'm i'm worried
[52:03]about it there there's more and more beliefs though that this administration could come in
[52:09]and give them some sort of bailout which would cause unrest here because it's almost
[52:14]20 years ago what is it 17 18 years ago that we bailed out banks saying we were too big
[52:19]but remember but just let me remember that let remind you of this when when when it happened
[52:25]with banks even that was about subprime mortgages okay and a lot of people were mad about it even
[52:31]if it was necessary furious but beneath these failed mortgages there were hard assets they
[52:36]were how there were homes and of those homes came back if this ai bubble bursts if they
[52:43]calculated these chips that over time aren't worth anything or now there's the next derivative
[52:48]of chips or these data centers maybe we built them and they're not functioning or they're
[52:52]using energy and doing nothing you're getting nothing for it right it's more so so that's a
[52:58]it's unclear what the underlying value is if we do see these companies trip interesting you
[53:02]mentioned uh energy usage which was which came up in the elections a couple weeks ago uh you
[53:08]see they're they're talking about doing stuff at three mile island i didn't i didn't finish
[53:12]the rest of that sentence until later i saw the headline and then i said oh because
[53:15]microsoft is going to have a data center there or something and it's it's like now we're talking
[53:19]about and i look i'm a i think we should have much more nuclear energy than we do in america
[53:23]but i didn't think that ai was going to be the reason or ai data centers were going to be the
[53:27]reason we were going to rethink our energy policy but you know what it might be because ai is
[53:32]such a big energy suck maybe really useful and when it finds cures to diseases that you and
[53:37]i don't even know that we've got in 20 years i think it's going to be great but yes no one has
[53:41]explained to me how it's going to create new jobs jd vance tried to spin it the other day about how
[53:47]the the builders are going to be like they're going to have robots they're going to be
[53:52]supervising robots and all that that was just ill thought out and and sort of ridiculous
[53:56]but somebody needs to tell me justin wolfers the economist from the university of michigan
[54:01]makes the point that we've done okay with other transitions the transition is the hard part
[54:06]right we get out to the other side okay you know i was telling you i talked to the head of
[54:10]the teamsters union the other day he pointed out their logo is a cart and horses right they
[54:16]thought the invention of the combustion engine was going to wreck their jobs and now they are
[54:20]the largest union in the country it's how we're going to get there this administration
[54:24]has not articulated what the government thinks of how we're going to get to the other side
[54:27]of the ai revolution yes let's go to next question all right i don't have one but i have
[54:37]okay ready i do i do ready wait yeah i'm gonna if brad wants to give us one great if not i have
[54:43]one all right brad says there's okay while we wait i'm gonna i want to talk about something
[54:51]so we heard about it a week ago and i thought it was so preposterous it was out of focus
[54:58]but then we heard about it again last night from treasury secretary scott best and talking
[55:02]to brett bear from fox again this idea of two thousand dollar checks to the american people
[55:08]so first the white house that continues to say this is the go the the economy is in the golden
[55:14]age everything is fantastic prices are down why do i need two thousand bucks from the
[55:18]report came out today u.s grocery prices have hit a record high okay scott best and was
[55:26]then brought up last night this idea that we would use some of the tariff money
[55:30]actually more of the tariff money because it would cost 600 billion dollars to send everybody
[55:35]a two thousand dollar check we're only bringing less than half of that in from tariffs
[55:39]and i'd like to say that it's trillions but it's yes but bear said to him if we send
[55:44]everybody those checks isn't that going to be inflationary because the stimulus checks while
[55:50]people may need have needed them during covid were absolutely inflationary okay and scott
[55:57]best's answer was we're really going to hope and we're going to talk to the american people
[56:03]and we're going to tell them to save those checks don't spend them now i thought it was so
[56:10]bonkers that he said that especially because he said it right outside the white house and
[56:14]you know who is inside the white house the c the ceo of the robin hood trading app vlad
[56:21]tenet one of the reasons vlad is as successful as he is and why he's at dinner with the crown
[56:26]prince of saudi arabia and president trump is because robin hood has been such a phenomenal
[56:31]success one of its big wins was during covid when everybody got the stimulus checks they had
[56:38]a huge surge in new people opening up robin hood accounts to trade mean stocks and day trade
[56:44]so this idea that the treasury secretary could say yep we like this idea of sending these
[56:49]two thousand dollar checks again without getting congressional approval i don't know
[56:52]how you're going to get that done but they remember people were hurting congress approved
[56:57]the stimulus checks trump put his name on it and it was a huge political win for them
[57:01]they're saying maybe let's do that political thing again it could have huge negative
[57:06]repercussions when it comes to inflation and we've learned in the last 10 years inflation
[57:11]sticky once prices go up they may stabilize which you hope they don't go down no they don't
[57:17]that's a good point um we got a question here which is a really good one is there a
[57:20]chance that ai ends up being more of a behind the scenes tool instead of the big consumer
[57:25]revolution everyone expects additional technologies of the last hundred years right they're all
[57:34]there's some consumer facing application to it i i think in this moment that we exist ai is
[57:39]more of a behind the scenes tool than it is an app that you use and i think that'll continue
[57:44]to be the case the pose things is neat uh or or make fake videos or whatever it is you want
[57:54]or compose america right now is a country music song that is created by ai performer but yes i
[58:07]think i think when you look at the stock market's increases on ai it's the idea that
[58:12]they're going to be behind the scenes tools and and whether it's behind the scenes or front
[58:16]forward front facing it's the technology right you still have to make the chips
[58:19]and that's where the money is making the chips distributing the chips figuring out
[58:23]ways where you can make more money by using ai as opposed to real people all of which is
[58:27]really interesting but doesn't typically result in hiring more people ali i was with a major
[58:31]music executive the other night right after you and i did this segment about the number one
[58:36]downloaded song is this country song fully ai and i said is this a future and i thought
[58:42]he had a really interesting answer he said ai won't be the future when it comes to
[58:47]music and musical artists it's going to be a tool that we see artists use
[58:54]but look what people are whether it's music or sports so in in it says and it's gimmicky
[59:07]like look this song that you like it's a hundred percent ai and he said in the same
[59:12]way that years and years or electronic you know like like he said that changed music but it
[59:22]is going to be a new technology and tool that's used that's going to exist and i thought that
[59:32]was really interesting yeah i think we're gonna i mean it would be great stephanie if we would
[59:36]if we were just talking about ai and how it applies to people's lives not in the way that
[59:42]you you think it's saying well ali and i were both recently where i had to reach out
[59:49]to a small business and ali and i just couldn't get over how detailed their answers were
[59:57]and how fantastic and i said ali i'm just amazed by by the customer service i mean that would be ai
[1:00:09]yeah look there are places that can help and i i don't think we should be luddites about this
[1:00:16]will be lost that's where government and society comes in to say in this transition
[1:00:20]to whatever the future is which might be very bright as it relates to ai people will
[1:00:25]lose their jobs how are we going to treat but that's missed and productive about it not ai
[1:00:32]is the enemy or ai right i think there are people who hate it and who think it's the best thing in
[1:00:40]the world that are getting rich off of it in the middle right okay but here's why every day
[1:00:46]they don't talk about it okay progressing we're moving forward we're working with technology
[1:00:54]right people who absolutely love something or the people who absolutely hate something
[1:01:01]yes that's name these are excellent questions by the way thank you for
[1:01:08]for continuing to send them in i want to know why what happens to the economy if scotus rules
[1:01:14]that the tariffs are off it feels like we might be very good questions donald trump has
[1:01:21]already said if they rule against him we don't even have the money and it's trillions of
[1:01:26]dollars which again you have stipulated it's not trillions of dollars uh b that's not 120
[1:01:33]and 140 billion dollars yeah but for for the u.s consumer here's the he doesn't go to the u.s
[1:01:41]consumer it goes to u.s businesses and up for months isn't going to get it and right is the
[1:01:50]car dealer going to give you a filled up in litigation because how do they who are they
[1:02:02]that going to work we don't know i have sources closely administer this overrules them
[1:02:09]that get ready this administration or you're going to be hard pressed
[1:02:13]to get the money out of them they will try to find ways to redeploy it elsewhere
[1:02:18]who knows maybe put the two thousand dollar checks from which is not an idea that's rooted
[1:02:30]in the or connected to the law correct the course you know in a in a real world that
[1:02:38]money would go into escrow right it would you got to pay the money back but now we're
[1:02:44]already jumping the gun on that by saying and you're right who gets the money because some
[1:02:51]companies decided to eat the tariffs and and not through the millions of products that have been
[1:03:00]bought since tariffs have been imposed your cup of coffee that became more expensive like
[1:03:03]does everybody get 64 cents back on their coffee so this is a this is like the epstein
[1:03:08]files this is going to be one of those things where the answer may not be as obvious as
[1:03:12]as what i would say like the epstein files and every other thing lawyers win yes yeah
[1:03:18]that's gonna be complicated um this has been fun i'm i'm loving this uh and thank you for
[1:03:24]your amazing questions that you're sending in it does really kind of help us stephanie because
[1:03:28]i think this feeds into our other work where we say what are people wanting to know what are
[1:03:32]the questions we're asking somebody asked a question we didn't get to what's the uh s&p 500
[1:03:37]doing without magnificent seven i actually had a chart so i'm gonna ask brad to remember
[1:03:41]for next week we're gonna put that chart up to say this is the s&p 500 this is magnificent
[1:03:45]seven and this is the rest of your stocks without magnificent seven so these are great
[1:03:49]questions when you ask us it makes us think about ways to answer and it makes us think
[1:03:54]about what really matters to our viewers and what to cover yeah amazing all right my brother
[1:04:00]and we are by the way we're taking next week off for thanksgiving uh and then but
[1:04:05]we'll be back the following week uh and hence we'll have a backload of questions you can
[1:04:10]send them to velshi rule at ms.now i know honestly send us your questions as they come um
[1:04:18]we may be obviously we're not we're not going to be with you next week but we may be in a
[1:04:23]position where we can pop online or pop on instagram and even answer them one off we
[1:04:28]want this to be a regular dialogue and right now there is so much in the news there is so
[1:04:33]much impacting the american people consider us your partners and your resource we want these
[1:04:38]answers just as much as you do so send us your questions uh especially listen you may you may
[1:04:45]have some questions you need answered before you head in to thanksgiving dinner with some
[1:04:52]prickly relatives and coming off of thanksgiving you may say you may have some questions
[1:04:57]send them our way uh amazing everybody have a fantastic thanksgiving
[1:05:03]velshi rule oh wait wait wait wait wait christy says i would like to know where ali velshi got
[1:05:10]his puffer vest that he wore on election night ali it was a gift the answer is it was a gift
[1:05:15]it was a gift uh it was it was uh uh but let me tell you thank you for asking about it i
[1:05:22]i'm trying to figure it out because some people really liked it and other people wondered
[1:05:25]as you did stephanie whether i was on my way i loved it barbecue in darien connecticut some
[1:05:30]people wondered if i was going fishing uh after the election results came in but it was it was
[1:05:35]it was fun velshi rule at ms dot now for questions have yourselves an amazing week
